Paw Me Case Study
Animal Welfare App
|
PROBLEM
The two main animal welfare agencies in Dunedin had issues with their public facing processes, and the methods to donate to them were quite convoluted. |
INSIGHTS
They both needed more streamlined adoption processes, as well as more detailed profiles for their animals that were available for adoption. One of the agencies in particular needed a quick and simple sign up process for potential foster families. They both also wanted a simple donation process for the public to be able to use than they currently had the infrastructure to support themselves. |

STEPS
After the initial data collection, I started to see what opportunities there were for me to work with. I had identified the adoption processes to be the top priority, both organisations had similar issues with them and it is also where most of their public interactions occur. Developing streamlined fostering sign up and donation processing were the next priority, as both organisations rely on those as key support mechanisms for their ongoing daily operations.

CONCLUSION
I really enjoyed working on PawMe; it involved getting to learn about the realities of animal welfare organisations in New Zealand, and was my first experience designing and creating an app.
Originally I didn’t have a chance to get any feedback from the organisations, or prospective users before I made the final prototype. User testing can be such a valuable resource for designers, and I know I would have learned a lot from the feedback, so I make a point of prioritising research and testing in my projects where possible.
