PROBLEM
Clients needed to use data-driven insights in a practical and meaningful way, and the tools and products used to achieve this do not intuitively allow their users to understand these insights. |
INSIGHTS
The current market offerings are limited in what they each offer; while the data they offer can be comprehensive, it is not easy to understand or utilise. Users have to resort to using multiple products to ensure access to all of the data they need. Specific data requirements should be displayed all in one place, and suggestions on ways to action the data need to be developed. |

STEPS
I began by conducting a design review of the existing products on the market. Scott and I also conducted a user interview together.
It was clear to us that the current tools provided too much data, and the visualisations they use are not easy for users to see the value or meaning of the data from. I made a low fidelity wireframe, to demonstrated the key functionality I felt a tool would need to have.

It was clear to us that the current tools provided too much data, and the visualisations they use are not easy for users to see the value or meaning of the data from. I made a low fidelity wireframe, to demonstrated the key functionality I felt a tool would need to have.
Our team then chose to focus on a key aspect of the tool that they would be responsible for, mine was the dashboard and actionable insights function of the tool, which aligned nicely with my initial research and concept direction. I built a wireframe prototype that was then user tested.
The main topics that came out of the feedback were that there were too many icons, which were confusing to use, and the colour scheme was too much in certain places. After the using testing, I used this feedback to further refine the prototype iterations, and created my final high fidelity prototype.
My NDA covers the final prototype, so I am unable to share the finished prototype with you.
CONCLUSION
I really enjoyed the opportunities this project gave me, I had a great team to work with and we all shared a collaborative mentality. I got to run really thorough user testing of my prototype, which was incredibly satisfying for me.
I’m really proud of the final prototype.
It would have been ideal to have conducted more user interviews than we were able to. It would have allowed us to better understand the nuances of the different core users needs, and make some detailed user flows to really get inside the mindsets of the users we were really designing for. I’ve been able to ensure more user interviewing in my subsequent projects as a result however, so it definitely helped me going forward.

I'd really enjoy talking about the work I did for DOT if you're interested to hear more on it.
